It’s easy to get started on your CoolSculpting® journey. Your first step will be scheduling a one-to-one consultation with a CoolSculpting® physician. This person could be a doctor or another medical professional who has training in the CoolSculpting® procedure.
Your CoolSculpting® physician will take the time to discuss a holistic approach to your goals for reshaping your body. Together, you’ll look at your whole body from different angles, then focus on specific areas where you want to eliminate fat.
Find a clinicYour CoolSculpting® physician will work with you on a treatment plan that’s tailored to your needs. It may take as little as one clinic visit to achieve your goals. With different applicators to choose from, your physician can design a treatment plan to help achieve your desired results.
For some people, a customised treatment plan may include more than one CoolSculpting® treatment. For example, you may want to freeze away fat from your inner and/or outer thigh, and then get rid of those stubborn “love handles” or "saddle bags". If you have limited time but have several areas of unwanted fat, some practices may even have multiple CoolSculpting® systems. Your physician will explain the process and establish if this is a suitable option for you.
Your physician will provide a clinical recommendation on which areas could be treated and how many treatments you may need. The result? Treatment where you want it that can help you meet your body goals.
This is a non-invasive procedure. During your treatment, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the specified area. This delivers controlled cooling to the targeted fat.
As the name suggests, the CoolSculpting® procedure can be a little chilly. Controlled cooling is delivered via an applicator to freeze the targeted fat. Though you may feel intense cold initially, this feeling usually subsides as the area numbs. Because most applicators use a vacuum to draw fatty tissue into the applicator cup, you may also feel some pulling, tugging, and/or mild pinching.
After you and your physician select the area(s) to be treated, the device is positioned on your body and controlled cooling is applied. A gel pad and applicator are applied to the targeted area. Vacuum applicators draw the tissue into the applicator cup. Applicators are secured to the treatment area. All applicators deliver controlled cooling to the targeted fat.
Absolutely! You are encouraged to do whatever feels most comfortable for you.
The CoolSculpting® procedure is completely non-surgical, which can mean minimal downtime. Often, patients return to work directly after their CoolSculpting® treatment. This will vary between people and may be dependent on treatment area.
During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations may subside as the area becomes numb.
Following the procedure, typical side effects include redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. Numbness can persist for up to several weeks. These effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks.
Though rare, some additional side effects such as paradoxical hyperplasia, late onset pain, freeze burn, vasovagal symptoms, subcutaneous induration, hyperpigmentation and hernia may also occur. Please see our FAQ page for more information.
The CoolSculpting® procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting® procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinaemia, cold agglutinin disease or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria. The CoolSculpting® procedure is not a treatment for obesity.
As with any medical procedure, ask your physician if the CoolSculpting® procedure is right for you.
Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the CoolSculpting® procedure. Most patients see results between 2 and 6 months depending on the area being treated.
